This year, there has been a series of mishaps that have rained down on NEET PG 2022. The NEET PG 2021 Counselling is not over and several students who are taking part in the State quota counselling have had to travel, rendering them incapable of preparing for NEET PG 2022. A bunch of aspirants will also be ineligible for the test this year (leading to a drop year) because their mandatory internship has not yet been completed. This is a direct result of the Covid-19 crisis when instead of internship duties, several students joined duties at the Covid wards.

Why has the Supreme Court dismissed the postponement plea?

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has dismissed the postponement plea put forward by medical bodies and doctors’ associations, citing several reasons for the decision. This includes the hit to the medical sector if a new batch of PG cleared junior doctors do not join soon. With the pandemic and several other delays, including one exam postponement, hospitals are already operating with two batches of junior doctors instead of the required three. Postponement of the NEET PG 2022 exam will be detrimental to the medical sector and patients as a whole.

What next for NEET PG 2022 aspirants?

With very few days left for NEET-PG 2022 which is to be conducted on May 21, 2022, protests are still being carried out with the hope that the postponement might be announced. The Union Health Ministry still has the right to override the decision taken by the NBE. Fingers crossed, medical aspirants are waiting for the final outcome. Meanwhile, the aspirants need to continue their preparation for the exam, as the chances of postponing the exam are mostly zero.

The National Board of Education in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) is the conducting body for the national-level screening test NEET PG which facilitates the admission of aspiring graduate doctors (who have completed their MBBS and their 12-month mandatory rotatory internship) to take admission in postgraduate courses in any of the 42,000 PG Medicine seats available across the country. With the low number of seats available, most NEET PG aspirants usually have to appear for the examination more than once.
