NEET-PG Counselling Revised Schedule 2018: Eligibility Norms for Non-Domicile Students in Karnataka Relaxed

The KEA (Karnataka Examination Authority) which is responsible for conducting counselling process for PG (Post Graduate) medical courses will re-issue the official notification for the same soon. The eligibility norms prescribed by KEA earlier has delayed the NEET-PG counselling process. Certain eligibility criteria that mandate ‘a candidate of Karnataka origin’ has put the future of non-domicile students in jeopardy earlier. Therefore, a few candidates have approached Supreme Court in this regard.

Non-domicile students, who are willing to pursue PG medical and dental courses in Karnataka can fee sign of relief now, as Supreme Court has declared NEET-PG controversial eligibility criteria for non-domicile students in Karnataka invalid.

Earlier, the state domicile was one of the mandatory norms for taking up PG medical and dental courses in Karnataka. Now, the apex court has directed the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) and Directorate of Medical Education to modify and amend the eligibility criteria so that other state students can also join PG medical and dental courses in medical colleges across Karnataka.

KEA NEET-PG Revised Eligibility Criteria:

• As per the official notification, a PG medical aspirant irrespective of 'Karnataka Origin’ and has completed/ passed/ graduated MBBS or BDS course in a medical or dental college located in Karnataka and outside Karnataka and have qualified NEET-PG 2018 with a prescribed cut-off score are eligible for the admission to PG medical courses in Karnataka.
• The candidates who have studied in an educational institute located in Karnataka for a period of 10 years or completed Class 11 and Class 12 in Karnataka or graduated MBBS or BDS course from the medical and dental colleges in Karnataka and either of the parents resided/ studied in Karnataka for a period of ten years are eligible for the admission to PG medical/ dental courses in Karnataka.
• Non-domicile students (Non-Karnataka students) who have completed MBBS or BDS course in Karnataka are eligible for the admission to PG medical and dental courses in Karnataka.

The third rule as mentioned above has bee revised as per the directions of the Supreme Court. These students are now eligible for the admission to PG medical courses in Karnataka under state quota. Similarly, these students are also eligible to join PG medical courses in their home state, even though they did not graduate in MBBS/ BDS from their respective state.

The deadline to register for NEET-PG 2018 counselling process in Karnataka ended on March 13, 2018. After revising the eligibility norms, KEA has released the revised NEET-PG counselling schedule which can be checked below.
