Pointing out the adverse effects of the lack of NEET centres on the aspirants, the Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK), on 22nd November 2019, requested that the Government for the establishment of more NEET-PG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for PG) centres in Kashmir.

The appeal has been made by DAK as many aspirants are forced to travel to other states to appear for the examinations. They added that the aspirants who are forced to appear for the NEET-PG and General NEET examinations outside the state causes them to “suffer physically and mentally”.

Dr Suhail Naik, the President of Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK), stated that the government should set up “notified NEET centres” in the government institutions of Kashmir. He added that the government institutions in Kashmir should be notified for the NEET examinations, as they have the capacity to hold the examinations, which are held every year for MBBS and MS/MD courses.

DAK President stated that the government officials have not given heed to the years of troubles that have been faced by NEET aspirants in Kashmir in reaching the examination centres outside of the state.

In his statement, he mentioned that the few examination centres that have been situated in the Jammu and Kashmir do not fulfil the requirement of holding NEET examinations for the hundreds of aspirants who wish to apply every year. He further added that the aspirants have to, every year, face a lot of issues during the travel to the centres outside the state due to either closure of highways or bad weather

Due to the limited amount of examination centres in Jammu Kashmir, the aspirants from the state are forced to choose the centres that lie outside J&K, he added. DAK further added that the DM and Fellowship aspirants, doctors have to appear for examinations outside of the valley, which negatively affects the healthcare system of J&K.
