NEET UG Supreme Court Hearing News: The Supreme Court has concluded hearing the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG 2024) case, July 22, 2024, and the next hearing is tomorrow, July 23. The three-judge bench consists of Justice JB Pardiwala, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, and Justice Manoj Mishra. In the July 18 hearing, the Supreme Court has directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to publish the NEET UG 2024 results on their website while ensuring candidates' anonymity. In the July 22 hearing, the SC has objected to Question 19 (Set Q1) as its final answer key shows two correct answers to the same questions. SC cleared its stand that two answers to the same question cannot coexist. SC directed IIT Delhi to confirm one answer by tomorrow and based on the answer confirmed, NEET UG results 2024 are likely to be revised in terms of raw marks, percentiles, and ranks.

Highlights of NEET UG Supreme Court Hearing 2024

Highlight 1: All India Pre-Medical 2015 was cancelled due to the "Tanvi Sarwal" ruling of 2015, which found that 44 candidates had benefited from unethical means.

Highlight 2: The petitioner, Nedumpara, offered to regard the May 5 NEET UG 2024 exam as a preliminary examination. For the NEET UG 2024 Main Exam, only eligible candidates will be taken into consideration. Counselling will be provided following the results of the main exam.

Highlight 3: Counsel objects to the NTA permitting 24,000 students to register for NEET during 24 hours on April 9. Candidates who neglected to complete the forms on time should not be granted another chance.

Highlight 4: The court's primary concern was raised about this question because the final answer key accepts "Atoms of 'each' element are stable and emit their characteristic spectrum" and also atmos of "most" elements as correct answers. The hearing will resume tomorrow once the SC requests that IIT Delhi provide a single acceptable choice. The question in NEET UG 2024 question paper is provided below: 

Given below are two statements:
Statement I: Atoms are electrically neutral as they contain equal number of positive and negative charges.
Statement II: Atoms of each element are stable and emit their characteristic spectrum.
In the light of the above statements, choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below:

1. Both Statement I and Statement II are correct.
2. Both Statement I and Statement II are incorrect.
3. Statement I is correct but Statement II is incorrect.
4. Statement I is incorrect but Statement II is correct.

It is highly likely that only one answer from the new textbook, namely (3) Statement I is correct but Statement II is incorrect, will be considered correct and all scores will be updated accordingly, including ranks, marks and percentiles. As many as 4,20,774 people attempted choice 1 (Atoms of each elements). Option 3 (atmos of "most" elements) received 9,28,379 attempts. Thus if Option (3) is chosen as the correct answer as per the new NCERT book, it will result in 4.20 lakh students losing 4 marks and 1 negative mark if Option 1 is chosen instead. "Both correct answers cannot coexist," the Supreme Court made it very clear.
