Nepalese Student from IIM-L Discovering India

Aakash Lohia, 23-year-old is a student from Nepal and the only student from a foreign country to join IIM-Lucknow this year. But instead of choosing GMAT he appeared for the Common Admission Test (CAT) and interview to enrol at IIM-L.

Both his father and sisters graduated from India. His father is civil engineer based out in Kathmandu, while the sister is married and settled in Lucknow.

“Writing the CAT was a great experience for me. It was my first chance to compete in India,” said Akash.

While hailing from a middle-class family in Kathmandu, Aakash feels that it was a great experience to compete with more than 2.5 lakh students and finally get selected.

A good piano player Aakash said his choice was India because his country is culturally closer to this vast country. He feels privileged to be a part of the diverse student group of IIM -Lucknow. He said he had made friends with students from India which make him feel at home. He also acknowledged the help he has been receiving from them to understand various things about the country.

He said he had made friends with students from India and feel at home and helping him in understanding the Indian things.

Besides learning management he is also learning from his friends about India festivals, social customs and norms. He says he is also telling about Nepal to his friends.

Aakash is all praise for the faculty of the institute and feels proud to be there. But he does not feel much of cultural difference while interacting with the fellow students and has been polishing his language skill.

Though he likes the late night culture of IIM-L but he is also at the receiving end as the city does not offer typical Nepalese Food.
