New Centre of Excellence in Aerospace and Defence to Come up in Karnataka
In order to provide high-end training in Aerospace and Defence, Karnataka government and Dassault Systemes has announced to set up a Centre for Excellence.
In order to provide high-end training in Aerospace and Defence, Karnataka government and Dassault Systemes has announced to set up a Centre for Excellence. The centre would provide training to nearly 1,600 engineers each year.
A Memorandum of Understanding or MoU was been signed on Thursday, 16 February 2017 between Dassault Systemes and Karnataka Biotechnology and Information Technology Services (KBITS).

Priyank Kharge, IT minister for the state said the centre will enhance the professional skills of the students and their employability in the aerospace industry. Though Bengaluru is a globally recognised technology hub, the state government will further strengthen its hold in aerospace and defence sectors. The minister further said that such steps will also help in attracting more foreign and domestic investments to Karnataka. The state will have a number of highly skilled professionals, who will be trained on the latest technology in the aerospace and defence.
Managing Director, India, Dassault Systemes, Samson Khaou said that the country is ranked number one globally in defence imports. There are ample opportunities to increase the manufacturing as well as the innovation activities in this sector for attaining self-sufficiency. Though the country produces lakhs of engineers every year, there is a huge shortage of skilled engineers and professionals in the domain of aerospace and defence sector. This new centre will act as a catalyst for the growth this industry and provide world-class skilled professionals for the sector.

Academic partner for the centre, Visvesvaraya Technological University, will provide space for the centre in Muddenahalli in Chikkaballapur district. The university will provide all the infrastructure like class rooms, operational cost, meeting rooms and all other maintenance fees.
