New director to Jipmer Appointed

<p>Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer), Puducherry has got its new director recently.
Subhash Chandra Parija has recently taken the charges institutes as new pf has been appointed as regular Director of the institute for five year.
The appointment came after the approval of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, as conveyed by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Dr. Parija has been appointed as director for five years from September 10, 2015 or till he reaches the age of 65 years. Dr. Parija had been serving as acting Director from March this year.
He has served as Dean of Research, and has nearly three decades of teaching and research experience in Medical Microbiology.
Dr. Parija is also a Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) expert, and has been constituted to draft guidelines on food safety. Besides that he is a World Health Organisation expert, compiling data on global prevalence of food-borne microbial diseases.
He has compiled 10 books and more than 267 papers in national and international journals and has received several awards including the Dr. BC Roy National Award of the Medical Council of India 2003 for contribution to the development of Medical Microbiology and the Professor BK Aikat Oration Award 1998 by the Indian Council of Medical Research etc.
He is also one of the very few medical microbiologists of India to be conferred the DSc, the highest degree in research, for his contribution in the field of Medical Parasitology by Madras University.
Besides that he is the Editor-in- Chief of the online journal, Tropical Parasitology and Internet Journal of Parasitic Diseases, and founder-president of the Indian Academy of Tropical Parasitology (a professional organisation of Medical Parasitologists in India).
