New Education Policy will Make India a Knowledge Super Power: President Kovind

Jamia Millia Islamia celebrated their convocation ceremony on Wednesday, which was presided over by President Ram Nath Kovind. During his convocation speech, he declared the New Education Policy will transform India into a Knowledge Superpower and globally recognise the talents of the students.

On 30th October 2019, President Ram Nath Kovind attended the convocation ceremony at Jamia Millia Islamia, where he stated that the New Education Policy (NEP) will build India into a Knowledge Superpower. The NEP is the hands of the HRD Ministry, where the final draft of the policy is being framed, which will also allow for global recognition of the students.

In his convocation address, President Ram Nath Kovind declared that the New Education Policy will transform into a “Knowledge Superpower. He stated that becoming a knowledge superpower will help the “immense talent of the students of the country”, be recognised globally.

Union Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal, Ministry of Human Resource Development, backed up the President’s statements. He stated that the New Education Policy will focus on providing girls, minorities and the underprivileged citizens of the country with job-oriented, scientific and technical education. The New Education policy will behave as the foundation stone for the “New India”.

While addressing the students, he urged the administration and the students to make better use of the talents of the students. He lauded the efforts of the Jamia in adopting four villages, as per the HRD scheme, and encouraged them to adopt more. He also advised the administration to teach and help the students to take various initiatives promoting the development of the villages.

He stated that the students should visit the villages adopted by the varsity and understand the different issues faced by the villages. He stated that the students should take the initiative on teaching the villagers on the importance of vaccination and cleanliness.

During Jamia Millia Islamia's Convocation Ceremony, the varsity saw over 10,000 students graduating this year with different degrees and diplomas. Among the awardees, there were 350 gold medallists who have graduated from batches of 2017 and 2018.

Out of the 350 Gold Medallists, 183 medallists were women. This marks the second consecutive year where female gold medallists have outnumbered male gold medallists. President Ram Nath Kovind congratulated the varsity’s attempts at female education, where both the Chancellor and the Vice-Chancellor are women, guiding the students and the varsity.
