<p>Dr. Samidha Shikha, an Associate Professor of English in Dronacharya Government College, Gurgaon has taken over the charges of the principal of the college recently.
After taking over the charges of the principal of the premier college of Millemumim City, she expressed her desire to improve the academic atmosphere of the college. It has been more than two decades since she has been serving in the college.
“I want to streamline the college by bring work culture and bringing back the academic atmosphere for the students and teachers. Today’s new generation students need to cultivate values, which I would try my best to infuse into the character of the students. I will also strive my best on extra curriculum activities of the students," she said.
While talking about the infrastructure of the college she said, “Right now our student teacher ratio is very low. I want to improve the student-teacher ratio. For this, I will write to Government to fill up vacant posts of the teachers in the college. I will also try my best to improve the lecture rooms of the classes and provide the best infrastructure as regard college Science laboratory is concerned and last but not least is provide lush greenery in campus by implanting more threes.”
Dr. Samidha Shikha has made Literature her passion and profession. A versatile teacher in service since the past 32 years, with 10 years of Post-Graduate teaching, her interests range from Literature and Environment, Poetry/Drama enactment, Women Empowerment, Gender Sensitization, Legal Literacy, Indian Aesthetics and Philosophy.
She has participated in many a social and academic workshop and has been ardently presenting papers in numerous seminars and conferences in India and abroad. Her Ph.D. research has been in the field of ‘Eco-Criticism’ a relatively new entrant in Literature. She went to France in 2012 to present her paper on ‘Eco-Criticism and Eastern Philosophy’ in a multi-disciplinary International conference. Her paper “Eco-Criticism and Eastern Philosophy” was published in an International refereed Journal Humanities and Social Sciences Review, Vol. 1, No. 3.
Her field being ‘Ecocriticism’ she ventured into innovative research on specific Indian poets. Throughout her career, she has been participating and presenting papers every year at various places in India like Trivandrum, Bangalore and Chennai and Goa. In the International Conference “Towards Eco-Cultural Ethics: Recent Trends and future Directions” held in BITS Pilani, Goa Campus from 9th to 11th October, 2014 she was invited there to be a Moderator of a Panel discussion and also to chair a couple of sessions.
She believes that ‘the journey’ is what matters really and not the destination and, therefore, keeps moving on.
