A new trophy for cadets of Bachelor of Technology or the BTech course was revealed at the convocation function of the 131st course at the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, on November 28, 2016.

NDA is an exceptional tri-services institute where cadets experience a three-year training before continuing to finishing schools for armed forces, naval forces and aviation based armed forces for another year of training and eventually taking charge as officers in the Indian military.

The new trophy will be granted to the cadet standing first on the merit in the BTech stream, which was initiated by NDA in June 2016 for Naval cadets. Arrangements are in the air to extend the BTech course to aviation based armed forces and armed force cadets from January 2017 onwards.

Air Marshal A.S Bhonsle awarded the new trophy to NDA commandant Air Marshal J S Kler in the interest of the Chairman Chief of Staff Committee, Headquarters, Integrated Defense Staff (IDS), which shapes the scholarly and military training plan with the NDA.

Engineering cadets who are able to successfully finish a three-year academic plus military training at the NDA will get their degrees in the following year later after the completion of school training at the respective officers' academy. It is required to meet the four-year requirement of an engineering course as prescribed by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Jawaharlal Nehru University has been awarding the B.Tech degrees so far.

Earlier, 274 cadets, including 95 from science stream, 128 from software engineering and 51 from sociology streams, were awarded degrees within the sight of JNU Vice-Chancellor M Jagadish Kumar, who was the chief guest at the event. The young graduates included four cadets from some of the friendly foreign nations.

Addressing the students, Kumar talked about the significance of advanced education and the difficulties being confronted in its execution. He complimented the cadets for taking on training with complete devotion and diligently working towards it. He propelled the cadets to convey forward the professionalism assimilated at the academy in their respective fields.
