NeXT Exam: MoHFW proposes change of board to conduct the exam
The Ministry of health and family welfare has proposed to change the board of conducting NexT exam along with the National Medical Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2022.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) recently proposed the guidelines for the National Exit Test (NeXT) to replace the NEET PG, NEET SS, and FMGE examinations with one single examination. However, now, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has requested for amendment of the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act, 2019, with the National Medical commission (Amendment) Bill, 2022, hereby replacing the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) with the Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences to be responsible for conducting the NeXT exam.
As soon as the proposed bill, National Medical Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2022, is accepted, the previously responsible board for conducting the examinations will be demolished and the new board will be put in charge. The MoHFW has requested comments on the bill within 30 days and not later than that, and if there are no objections, the bill will be passed.

Details of NeXT Exam
Candidates who are unaware of the NeXT exam may note these essential points to know the reason for implementation and other conditions:- Currently, candidates have to undergo multiple exams to be eligible to practice as doctors or even to seek admission for PG courses after they complete MBBS. The NeXT exam will eradicate all the other levels of exams, with one examination for all purposes. Hence, it will act the licensing of candidates to practice medicine.
- Further, as per the added points on the guidelines, the NeXT exam will be conducted in two steps; Step 1 will be MCQ based exam, and Step 2 will comprise of practical or clinical test along with viva voce test. Candidates will have the liberty to complete both the stages at their own convenience, with one condition that both stages shall be completed within 10 years from the time of MBBS admission.
