NIFT Bhubaneswar to Partner with Indonesia to Promote Sustainable Fashion
NIFT Bhubaneswar to collaborate with Indonesia to promote sustainable fashion and handloom tradition. The collaboration between NIFT Bhubaneswar and Indonesia will strengthen the historic tie between the two countries.
An Indonesian Delegation recently visited the National Insitute of Fashion Technology, Bhubaneswar for collaboration. The pact between NIFT Bhubaneswar and Indonesia will promote Sustainable Fashion and Handloom Tradition. The delegation marked the presence of Mangku Pastika, who is the former Governor of Bali and President of World Hindu Parishad. The delegation explored academic collaboration and exchange opportunities between two countries through NIFT Bhubaneswar.
During their visit to NIFT Bhubaneswar, The 9th Governor of Bali, Mr Mangku Pastika said that NIFT Bhubaneswar can play a pivotal role in strengthening the ties between two countries. Two countries share similarities in handloom through the Ikat fabric and both have a common heritage. He added that sustainable development is the need of the hour and both countries can work on their historic ties through the same medium. As the traditional ties between Odisha and Bali are well known to the world, two countries can progress through the handloom industry, especially, Ikat which is produced in both places. The Ikat fabric is popularly known as ‘Ikkat’ in Odisha and many other parts of India.
Mr Pastika suggested to set up Chairs in the name of the Indonesian leader at the campus to promote research and discussion through sustainable fashion.

The delegates were amazed to see the Aal Tree in the institute which is used to produce Red Dye. They also interacted with the management and students of the institute.
Binay Bhushan Jena, the Director of NIFT Bhubaneswar informed that there are only two places in the world where Aal Tree is used to produce dye for fabric colouring. One place is Koraput in Odisha and another in Bali. This is the symbol of great historic cultural and traditional ties among both the places.

The National Insitute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Bhubaneswar is now planning to establish a centre of Sustainable Fashion Development which will promote the usage of natural fibres and dyes in the NIFTB Campus. The collaboration between India and Indonesia will help spread the message that sustainability is not limited to essential good but cab be implied to the world of fashion as well
