After three days of the incident of shoving and pushing of Calcutta University VC Sugata Marjit by a number of students of Vivekananda College for Women during an agitation, the college authorities finally suspended nine students and also asked other 77 students who were identified to be participating in that agitation, to apologise to Prof. Marjit.
The Principal of the college Soma Bhattacharya said they have sent a strong message to the students by suspending nine of them for a year-long who were caught in CCTV footage heckling the VC. They have also asked 77 other students to tender an apology.
The VC had gone to the college to attend some official event on April 5, 2016, when he faced the agitating students who were demonstrating before the principal's office demanding that 95 students of UG courses who had failed in test examination be allowed to appear in the second year final examination.
Soma Bhattacharya also added that the college authority has also identified clearly the person who had stopped the car of Prof. Marjit to enter in the College premises and fiercely misbehaved with him.She also added that she will go to the police station and also lodge an FIR against that alleged person for his misconduct with the VC.
