NIPER Guwahati Partners with Hindustan Antibiotic for Antimicrobial Face Masks
NIPER Guwahati has partnered with Hindustan Antibiotic for the purpose of mass-producing industrial-grade antimicrobial face masks. The Institute took the initiative to design and develop multi-layer 3D-printed face masks in order to curb the spread of COVID-19.
With the sharp rise in the COVID-19 cases across the states in India, educational institutions have taken up the initiative to help reduce the effects of the pandemic. Among such institutions, the National Institute of Pharmaceuticals Education and Research Guwahati (NIPER Guwahati) has announced their partnership with Hindustan Antibiotic for the production and sale of 3D-printed antimicrobial face-shields to curb the spread of COVID-19.
As per a statement from the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, NIPER Guwahati has submitted an Indian Design Patent and a Provisional Patent at the Indian Patent Office in New Delhi. Further, in a bid to combat the pandemic, NIPER Guwahati had previously developed two more 3D products.

In the statement from the Ministry, the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research is responsible for designing and developing a multi-layer 3D-printed antimicrobial face mask in order to curb the escalation of novel Coronavirus. The mask will be produced on a large-scale and at an industrial-grade to fight the spread of the pandemic in the nation.

The statement from the Ministry also stated that NIPER Guwahati had previously designed and developed a hands-free multi-tasking tool to help people open and close various objects such as doors, windows, drawers, or use handles of different objects, press elevator buttons or use laptops and desktop keyboards, to minimize the contact between human skin and foreign surfaces, which could possibly be infected.
Like NIPER-Guwahati, many educational and research institutes, engineering colleges, and medical institutions have been taking the initiative to combat the pandemic in their own manner.
