NIT Karnataka Bags Central Research Facility by HEFA
Research activities at the National Institute of Technology, Karnataka (NIT-K) received funds for Central Research Facility (CRF). It was funded by HEFA in a joint venture with MHRD and Canara bank.
Research activities at the National Institute of Technology, Karnataka (NIT-K) Surathkal received funds for Central Research Facility (CRF). It was inaugurated by Union minister of human resources development (HRD) Ramesh Pokhriya.
Higher Education Funding Agency (HEFA) jointly ventured by MHRD, Government of India and Canara Bank has funded CRF. The purpose is financing the creation of capital assets at one of the prominent institutes in India. The broader aim is to help institutes excel in global ranking in terms of infrastructure and R&D
NIT-K is one of the NIT’s chosen by HEFA for the purpose and is the six institutes to receive a loan from HEFA in the country. The CRF will have high-end research equipment costing Rs. 80 crore. The facilities are open to all who want to do research.
While Addressing people Karanam Uma Maheshwar Rao, NITK Surathkal director said that the research and research collaboration facilities will be offered at the centre and meetings and conferences related to research will be held at the centre at frequent intervals. The centre will also offer opportunities to undergraduate and postgraduate students to access facilities and training.

The centre will offer production facilities with manufacturing equipment, material characterisation facilities and IPR cells, industrial consultancy office and sponsored research, Technology transfer cell and technical business incubator.
One of the faculty members of the institute said that the newly launched facilities will help over 700 research students who stay in NIT campus. Although most of the equipment will be procured from aboard, the focus will be on Make in India Product. He also said that the research paper prepared using the equipment provided will have more weightage in international journals.
The foundation of Shruti and Lata apartment to offer hostel facilities to boys and girls was also laid by Ramesh Pokhriya. The block for faculty will have green building features, energy-efficient design, industrial waste usage, use of energy-efficient lights etc.
