NIT Rourkela Wins 11th National Parliamentary Debate Prize

CNLU, Chanakya National Law University organised the 11th National Parliamentary Debate. NIT, Rourkela won the debate competition whereas St. Xaviers, Kolkata was the runner up.

11th national parliamentary debate was organised by CNLU, Chanakya National Law University and it was a three-day event which began from 13 September 2019, Friday.

The National Institute of Technology, Rourkela municipality team won the 11th national parliamentary debate. Ravi Shankar Prasad, the Union Law Minister addressed the audience at the event. According to him, debating skills are key to advocacy. He also said that the best students in India are going to the IITs and NITs. He later on also added that the law students must have a sense of hard work, honesty, and articulation as there are no shortcuts in law.

AP Shahi, Chief Justice of Patna High Court was the guest of honor and Narendra Narayan Yadav was the special guest in the 11th National Parliamentary debate event.

Winner of this national parliamentary debate was Swayam Purna Mishra (NIT, Rourkela), and the runner up was Soumi Chatterjee (St. Xaviers College, Kolkata). Both of them received Rs 60,000 and Rs 35,000 respectively. However, Arshia Grace Manavalan received the best adjudicator prize i.e. Rs 12,000. Priya Chatterjee Ray and Pranav Dhupia (St. Xaviers College) were awarded best speaker award and prize money of Rs 12,000. The final topic of the parliamentary debate was ‘The rise of political satire in recent times and how it trivializes political disclosure in the world’.

The semi-finals were conducted between NIT Rourkela, St.Xavier (Kolkata), National Law University (Lucknow).
