NIT Srinagar Resume Classes After Break

After the closure of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar for several months following a series of unwanted incidents relating to unrest at the border, the classes at this premier institute have resumed for the first semester in B. Tech from 28 November 2016.

A release from the Raj Bhawan said that Director of National Institute of Technology Srinagar (NIT), Prof. A R Dar informed N N Vohra, Governor of the state that classes have been started with the commencement of B. Tech first semester from 28 November.

Important Dates for Resuming of Classes at NIT Srinagar:

• Seven semesters for B. Tech are scheduled to start from December 15, 2016
• B.Tech third and fifth semesters to start from January 1, 2017
• Scheduling of classes for M. Tech and Ph. D are being worked out by the authorities

A spokesperson from the NIT Srinagar said that students of third and fifth semesters have been undergoing internship/ practical training. Again the students of the seventh semester in the institute have been working on their seminars and final year project.

Ever since the institute was closed following the clashes of the locals and students from outside, the institute took various steps and made elaborate arrangements for the resumption of academic work.

Some of the measures undertaken for smooth flow of the classes are-

• Make provision for adequate facilities for heating in the classroom
• Make good arrangements in the hotels
• Introducing on-line teaching with e-lectures
• Uploading the website of the institute with study materials for students
• Provide uninterrupted power supply to the institute and hostels

The spokesperson also said that in order to compensate for the time lost following the unrest, the institute has decided to cancel the winter vacation. They have also introduced 6-day work culture instead of the previous 5-day in a week. Holidays have altogether been canceled.

The spokesperson of Raj Bhavan also recalled the Governor's deep concern over the irreparable damages students suffered following the unrest in the valley. The Governor has been stressing on importance steps being taken expeditiously as to compensate the loss student had undergone. The Governor had undertaken several rounds of meetings with different officials like -

• Education Minister
• Vice-Chancellors of the Kashmir-based all Universities
• Director of NIT
