Niti Aayog Plans to Rope in IIM Alumni for Startup India & Other Govt. Initiatives

Speaking to about 100 IIM alumni of different batches, NITI Aayog CEO, Amitabh Kant said that the government wants to work with the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) to strengthen the Startup India and other such initiatives.

He was speaking at IMAGES 2017, the 100th pan-IIMs get-together in Delhi. IIM alumni hold these informal get-togethers every month. Kant revealed that they are looking for great mentors who can, in fact, join hands to transform the country. The key to transforming the country is the cooperation between the public and private sectors so that they can work together. He added that it will be exciting to listen to the ideas on increasing engagement and action on campaigns like Startup India & Atal Tinkering Laboratories.

Kant said that as a part of the Atal Innovation Mission that has been named after Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the former Prime Minister of India, NITI Aayog plans to set up around 500 Atal Tinkering Laboratories in different schools to spread a culture of innovation. They will be providing the hardware for the same. But it will not be successful if they don’t get the right mentors.

Salil Agrawal, an IIM-Ahmedabad graduate of the 1983 batch said that these meetings throw up potential business as well as job opportunities. He further said that they have alumni with diverse experiences. A lot of them are willing to contribute their time & energy towards nation-building. This experience could be very important in conceptualising projects & ensuring execution.

The alumni are very keen to explore the ways where they can partner with NITI Aayog, a central government think tank that took the stead of the Planning Commission.
