The Vice chairman of NITI Aayog Arvind Panagariya, after the internal discussion on finalisation of regulatory framework for setting up 10 private and 10 public world class institutions, said that they will be ready with a roadmap in next three months for developing 20 world class institutions (WCIs) which will be solely aimed at improving quality of higher education in India.
He also said that there is going to be a lot of brainstorming and thinking on the issue.
The Aayog will take advice from experts on this particular matter as it is a very complex issue.
In February, the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley when he was giving his budget speech declared to make an all-inclusive scheme to set up the world class teaching and research institutions to amplify the quality of education and to provide education at an affordable rate.
The government is looking at this from every angle and aspect so that they can create these WCIs. These WCIs will be included in the amendment in UGC Act or will have a separate legislation or through executive order.
Currently, UGC otherwise known as University Grant Commission is solely responsible for maintaining the standards of institutions, colleges or universities which provide higher education in the country.
