The decision of replacing the Medical Council of India with National Medical Commission has got mixed reviews till now. While many are in support of the same, many are against it and consider it even worse than the MCI. Despite of the rumours and different view points regarding the matter, the State government has finally approved of Niti Aayog’s decision of scrapping down the MCI and replacing it with National Medical Commission.

The decision of scrapping the MCI was given a nod by representatives from 20 States during a meeting with the MCI.

It has been recorded that most of the states have agreed to the decision of Niti Aayog of bringing in the National Medical Commission to replace it with Medical Council of India. Earlier, the government had appointed the Niti Aayog to do some research and present a case study on Medical Council of India.

According to an official who attended the meeting, it was found out that apart from agreeing with Niti Aayog on National Medical Council, one more proposal has been set forth the states that instead of just one chairman of the new regulatory body, there should be some members also.

Also, another proposal included the setting up of a consultative committee, the members of this committee will advise the commission.

The discussions held in the meeting have not yet been finalised and are still pending before they get the final approval from the Prime minister, after which a bill will be passed in the parliament. Also, the final decision will be made on the basis of the various recommendations collected from the states and the general public.
