No CUCET 2021 for UG Admission to Central Universities: UGC

No Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET) will be held for undergraduate admission to central universities in 2021, as per the UGC's announcement on July 18. It may be implemented for the 2022-23 academic session though.

UGC tweeted that due to the current COVID-19 situation, the admission process in Central Universities for 2021-22 will go as per the past practice. As per UGC's revised academic guidelines, which were released on July 16, universities are supposed to wrap up the admission process for UG and PG courses by September 30. UGC had also asked the colleges and universities to wrap up the final semester/ final year exams by August 30. CUCET proposal was there in NEP 2020. In December 2020, the Union ministry of Education also formed a 7-member committee to decide modalities for CUCET for UG courses admission across various central universities.

According to NEP 2020, the National Testing Agency (NTA) will focus on coming up with a high-quality common aptitude test, as well as a specialised common subject exam for Humanities. Arts, Languages, Sciences, and Vocational subjects at least twice a year.

Sometime back, JNU and DU had already decided that they will continue their admission process as per practice and will not be going ahead with CUCET 2021 implementation. The admission to both these universities will be done on the basis of merit, a process that has been carried out previously, in the preceding years. JNU's independent entrance exam for UG admission will be conducted by NTA.

CUCET is an all-India exam, which takes place for UG, PG, and research courses admission to various State and Central Universities in India. Some universities also conduct CECET for admission to various integrated courses. In addition to the CUCET scores, performance in class 12 is also taken into account for admission to the various courses.
