The Bar Council of India has recently announced that from AIBE XVI 2021 onwards no notes, books or study material will be permitted inside the exam hall. Candidates can only carry Bare Acts without notes, the notification said. Bare Acts are defined as the exact text of a particular enactment by the legislature, without interpretation.

Earlier, AIBE was conducted as an open book exam and the aspirants could carry study materials to the exam centre. This decision by the BCI to not allow candidates to use books while taking the exam is likely to make the exam more difficult. All India Bar Examination (XVI) will be held on April 25, 2021. The application form for AIBE XVI was released on December 26 and candidates can submit it until March 22, 2021. After qualifying the exam, candidates will be given the 'Certificate of Practice' by the BCI.

According to BCI, the AIBE sets a minimum benchmark for admission to the practice of law. It evaluates a candidate's analytical ability and understanding of the basics of law.  Since AIBE is a qualifying exam to study law, aspirants need to score a minimum of 40%. For SC and ST candidates, the minimum score is 35%.
