No Spot Rounds for Vacant Seats in NITs This Year: HRD Ministry
The ministry mentioned that as per the directions of Supreme Court, it is not possible to conduct spot rounds this year.
The Ministry of Human Resource and Development clarified that it is not possible to conduct spot rounds for filling up vacant seats in National Institutes of Technology (NITs). Currently, a total number of 1,500 seats are vacant in NITs.
The ministry mentioned that as per the directions of Supreme Court, it is not possible to conduct spot rounds this year. However, the plan will be implemented from the next year where consecutive rounds will be taken up till all the vacant seats are filled.

The Supreme Court had ordered not to conduct admissions after August 15, 2016, which obstructed the HRD Ministry to take up spot rounds. HRD Minister, Prakash Javadekar had explained this in a tweet on September 20, 2016. He also assured that all the vacant seats would be filled from next year.

Currently, most students are demanding that the ministry conducts spot admissions for the 1,500 vacant seats in NITs this year.
