The Uttar Pradesh Combined Pre-Medical Test (UPCPMT) will not be held this year, the state government said on Wednesday. Instead, the government has decided to go with the second phase of objective type National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) scheduled on July 24 across the country.
According to the principal secretary, Medical Education, Anup Chandra Pandey, It has been decided to go with NEET for admissions to state-run MBSS and dental colleges. For admissions to courses under AYUSH, a notification would be issued soon .
The government's decision has cleared uncertainty over UPCPMT which had left the aspirants confused. The central government has brought in an ordinance to postpone NEET until next year and keep out state medical exams from its ambit. The first phase of NEET was held on May 1.
It may be noted here that after the Supreme Court directed the central government to implement NEET from this year itself, the Centre issued an ordinance allowing states to continue holding their separate medical entrance exams for this year.
The combined result of NEET Phase I and Phase II will be announced on or before August 17.
