Through this move taken by HRD Ministry, a total number of 122 deemed universities will be benefitted. Some of the deemed universities among them are: -
- Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai
- Lakshmibai National University of Physical Education, Gwalior
- Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Uttar Pradesh
- Banasthali University, Rajasthan
- Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad
- Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies University
The deemed universities can get the NAAC accreditation even though UGC does not assess the off-campuses. UGC also examined the issue related to NAAC Accreditation for the main campuses of deemed varsities as well as with off-campus centres.
For this purpose, NAAC might be asked to de-link the accreditation of main campuses of deemed universities from their off-campuses. The accreditation process will be further carried out for main campuses.

Earlier, the norms for deemed universities were different. They were eligible for NAAC’s accreditation and assessment without considering the number of years of establishment. These campuses got accredited and approved by NAAC. The universities which were not approved by UGC and HRD did not have a chance to go for an assessment. As of now, these universities can go for assessment even though UGC and HRD Ministry do not approve them.
