Union HRD Minister, Mr. Prakash Javadekar confirmed that the National Testing Agency (NTA) would conduct JEE Main and NEET examination in Computer-Based Mode (CBT) mode instead of online mode. The HRD Ministry also indicated that the government is planning to hold JEE and NEET in CBT and pen and paper mode during the first year of formation of NTA. National Testing Agency will set up practice centres for NEET and JEE soon so that students can practice the mock tests, he revealed.

What is the Difference between Computer-Based Test and Online Exam?

Computer-Based Test: In Computer-Based Test (CBT), candidates will mark answers on already downloaded answer sheets using the mouse. Internet is not mandatory for a computer-based test. The decision was taken to avoid internet issues, particularly in rural areas. The students will have to mark the answers and save the time. After the exam, the authorities will upload the computer-based answer sheets of students to the main server of NTA for evaluation.

Online Exam: Internet is mandatory for the online exam. The candidates will have to log in after entering into the exam hall to view the question paper. The exam begins exactly at the stipulated time and the question papers are displayed randomly. There might be at least 8 to 10 sets of question papers out of which a candidate can get any. The answers marked and saved by students will be automatically uploaded to the main server of NTA. The online exam will enable the exam authority to declare the results within one week after the exam.
