Richard Verma, US envoy to India said that the number of American students in India will also grow as a result of the different initiatives started by the two nations.
There has been a 25% rise in the number of Indians studying in US since 2015. Richard Verma, US envoy to India said that the number of American students in India will also grow as a result of the different initiatives started by the two nations.
The envoy said that the nation is pleased to see a rise in the number of students opting to study in American Universities. The number of students enrolling for undergraduate courses has also increased.

Talking about the various initiatives, Verma said that with the Passport to India initiative there is a lot of scope for American students in India. Also, the Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) on ‘Importance of India’ will motivate American students to enroll in Indian universities.
He further added that attention is being paid to policy and regulatory environment where exchange programmes and partnerships between different institutes play and essential role. With the establishment of world class universities in India and devising the National Education Policy, Indian Government has taken vital steps to attract international students.
Talking about the Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange, 2016, and informed that according to the records 165,918 Indians were pursuing higher education in the US during the academic year 2015-16. This number has grown by 25% over the last year and India is now the second leading country of origin among international students in America.

The Report is published yearly by the Institute of International Education in collaboration with the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
