Number of Female Students Down to 26% at IIMs
Only 16% of woman students have taken admission in IIM Lucknow.
The number of female students in the Indian Institutes of Management has been declined to 26% in the year 2016 from 32% in 2013. The premier institutes have been taking steps to mitigate gender bias and improving gender diversity. Despite these efforts, there has been a rapid decline in the number of female candidates.
Currently, a total number of 649 women students are pursuing various management courses at six IIMs. In the year 2013, the number of female students was 800.

The officials of IIMs opined that there isn’t any significant difference in the number of women students. However, most of the women students are joining other courses or local colleges due to various reasons.
This year, IIM Calcutta has a high number of female students. The percentage of female students is 38%. Only 16% of woman students have taken admission in IIM Lucknow.

The managing director of Britannia Industries,Mr. Vinita Bali says that there is a need to study this phenomenon. It is a matter of great concern as the government is trying its best to bring a high number of women on corporate boards and the number of female students in B-Schools has been declining, said Rohin Kapoor, Director of Deloitte in India.
