Only 135 Telangana Colleges have NAAC Accreditation
- In the current year’s NIRF Ranking by MHRD, none of the college from Telangana made it to the list of top 100 institutes.

Students planning to pursue undergraduate programmes in science, arts and commerce field need to carefully consider the college ranks and the facilities offered by them as most degree colleges in Hyderabad are not in a good state. Due to this only a few colleges in Hyderabad have accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council - NAAC. There around 1,159-degree colleges in the state and 169 colleges are located in Hyderabad. But as few as 135 colleges in the state are accredited by NAAC.
In the current year’s NIRF Ranking by MHRD, none of the college from Telangana have been given ranks in the list of top 100 colleges. States like Tamil Nadu had around 38 colleges in the list followed by Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Most of the colleges in Hyderabad state do not even meet the basic requirements.

According to the experts, decreasing the number of seats in private degree colleges and institutes will improve the quality of education. Prof Sankasala Mallesh, Former Vice Chairman of Telangana State Council of Higher Education stated that there are four lakh seats available in degree colleges but the requirement is just for two lakh seats. It is due to these reasons that unhealthy competition and imbalance among the private degree colleges has been created.

There are around 274 courses offered in degree colleges across the Telangana state. However, only a few courses have been in existence whereas colleges providing programmes with specialized combinations of subjects are very rare.
