Jawaharlal Nehru University has released the results of M.Phil Hindi entrance exam. JNU offers 12 seats in M.Phil course with Hindi as the specialisation. Over 800 students appeared for the entrance exam, out of which only four students managed to clear the test with 50% marks. The entrance exam was conducted as per the new admission guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Responding to the current state of the situation, teachers of JNU Hindi Department alleged that the varsity had not given additional points to students coming from disadvantaged groups. Chairperson of Centre for Indian languages, Mr. Gobind Prasad stated that the reservation policy was abolished as per the new guidelines of UGC.

As per UGC regulations, aspirants will have to score 50% marks in the entrance test to be eligible for the admission. Many aspirants blamed the new admission regulations because of which many of them have failed in the exam. Earlier, there were deprivation points and other benefits for reserved and PwD category students. Due to the absence of these benefits, it is difficult for the aspirants to clear the entrance test with 50% score.

A senior professor of Hindi Department at JNU revealed that there is no clarity whether the four students who cleared the entrance test would be able to get admission. These four students will have to clear the interview process, which is also tough as per the new UGC guidelines. The interview will be conducted for 100 marks, he added.

As per previous rules, students used to write the written exam for 70 marks and the rest of the 30 marks are allocated for the interview. The minimum qualifying mark prescribed was also very less. For instance, OBC candidates were declared qualified in entrance test if they score 20% marks. Similarly, the minimum qualifying mark for SC/ST students in the written test was 18%.
