Osmania University Establishes Center for Cyber Security and Cyber Law
The Osmania University has introduced a Cyber Security Centre to research on Cyber Security, Privacy Threats and Cyber Law. The university has signed MoU with Cyber Security Centre for Excellence (CoE), Telangana for Support.
The popular Osmania University now has the State’s very firstCentre for Cyber Security & Cyber Law. The new centre at the university will conduct research in Cyber Security and Cyber Laws and will also offer professional courses in the respective field.
According to the sources, the decision to establish the centre is the outcome of a growing number of cyber threats. Also, there is a dearth of such trained professionals who can help bring down the number of such crimes.
As per the survey, India requires over 30 lakh cybersecurity professionals but at present, the country only has one lakh trained professionals. The university will also launch M.Tech in Cyber Security and will also introduce it as an additional subject in the existing UG programmes. These courses will be offered in association with University College of Engineering and University College of Law.
Professor S Ramachandram, VC, OU, said that there is a dire need forcybersecurity and cyber law professionals in the country and the centre at OU will help address it. He also informed that the centre will be operational within a year.
The cybersecurity centre at OU will develop, train and will strengthen the practical applicability of cybersecurity concerns, cyber mitigation and threat detection. The centre will also foster research projects and papers on the sector.
The University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cyber Security Centre of Excellence, Telangana (CoE). The CoE will act as the official industry partner and the advisor of the programme to make the program more efficient.
The CoE will help in the governance of this Centre and setup of operations. OU will be jointly conducting workshops, training, conferences and events on Cybersecurity and Privacy with CoE. Both the institutions will indulge in joint research projects at the cybersecurity centre on the topics of Cyber Security and Privacy.
Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence in OU is a joint initiative of the Data Security Council of India (DSCI) and the Government of Telangana. The CoE attempts to develop sustainable cybersecurity and privacy industry.

The CoE will create conducive cybersecurity ecosystem to sustain entrepreneurship, innovation and capability building by retaining with industries, government, academic institutes, research & development centres, user groups, accelerators and incubators.

The Registrar of Osmania University, Professor Ch Gopal Reddy and the CEO of Security Center for Excellence, Telangana State Mr Shriram Birudavolu signed the MoU. Senior officials from Osmania University and the Centre for Cyber Security were present in the event.
