Osmania University Prepares for Institution of Eminence Tag
- OU is to introduce new research programmes and course to acquire the tag of Institution of Eminence from the Union government of the country.
- Therefore, OU is to start a five-year implementation plan to qualify for Institution of Eminence.
Osmania University is gearing up for Institution of Eminence tag to get ranked among other leading research and teaching institutions of the world. The varsity is planning to introduce new research programmes and course to acquire the tag of Institution of Eminence from the Union government of the country.
The varsity has received an A+ grade of the National Assessment and Accreditation and Council - NAAC. Around 104 institutes across the country including 71 central universities such as Indian Institutes of Management, Indian Institutes of Technology and National Institutes of Technology have qualified for the same status.

The main aim of the UGC is to enable ten public and private higher education institutes to emerge as global research institutions. Therefore, Osmania University is introducing a five-year implementation plan to qualify for Institution of Eminence which will help them to compete at global level.
As per the reports, the university officials have chalked out 12 new programmes in the areas such as sports, non-science, medicine, biomimicry, and others. Along with this, they are also planning to start new research programmes like advanced signal process, material solar cells and big data analysis. They are also to start a writing skill lab which enables students to draft their research thesis and projects.

Dr. Sriram Venkatesh, Director, Internal Quality Assurance Cell, OU, informed the authorities that they will also introduce legal aid cell. OU is also to start the construction of girls hostel to accommodate international students along with hostel for Indian students.The University has applied for the status and project representation. They were to represent their proposal before the empowered experts in Delhi on 3 and 4 April.
