Osmania University to Host 105th Indian Science Congress in 2018

Indian Congress Association has selected Osmania University to host 105th Science Congress that will take place from January 3 to 7, 2018. Indian Science Congress will witness the gathering of scientific luminaries from various countries across the world.
In the year 1998, 85th Indian Science Congress was hosted by Osmania University. Then Prime Minister IK Gujral inaugurated it. After 20 years, Osmania University is again hosting the Indian Science Congress.
A committee was formed under the Chairmanship of Dr. Ashok Saxena to select the venue for holding 105th Indian Science Congress. A total number of five reputed institutes in India that include KIIT University applied to host the conference. However, the committee selected Osmania University after the careful verification.
Prof. Achyuta Samanta has been appointed as the General President of Indian Science Congress. He is also the Founder of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) and KIIT University.
Prof. S. Ramachandram, Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University has received communication from Achyuta Samanta, General President of Indian Science Congress Association. He confirmed that Osmania University has been selected to host the prestigious 105th Indian Science Congress. The 105th Science Congress is expected to be inaugurated by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.

Around 5,000 scientists and researchers from government, private, research and educational institutions are expected to take part in 105th Indian Science Congress.
In January 2017, Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati hosted the 104th Indian Science Congress. Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi inaugurated it. The theme of the 104th Science Congress was ‘Science and Technology for National Development’.

Nobel laureates, research scholars, scientists, teachers and students from various parts of the world took part in the Science Congress and shared their views and ideas on varied topics.
During the 104th Indian Science Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conferred prestigious ‘Millennium Plaques Honor’ to Podile Apparao, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad. He played a crucial role in the development of Science and Technology and received recognition for his contribution.
The first session of Indian Science Congress was held in West Bengal in 1914. The conference was held at Asiatic Society, Calcutta. The President of the conference was Justice Sir Asutosh Mukherjee, Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University. Around 60,000 members took part in the conference. In 2013, Indian Science Congress completed its centenary and the Centenary session was held in Kolkata. The President of the conference was Dr. Manmohan Singh, the then Prime Minister of India.
