Over 3 Lakh Students from Mumbai Applied for ITI Courses

As many as three lakh students have applied for admission to Industrial Training Institutes (ITI). Directorate of Vocational Education and Training (DVET) introduced the online application process for admissions to ITI last week.

2.5 lakh of the 3.2 lakh students who have applied and have completed their application procedure by filling their details, option form and attaching all the required documents.

There are 1.32 lakh seats in the 417 government and 496 private institutes in Maharashtra. There has been a rise in the demand for various ITI courses. Over the years, students have shown a keen interest in the engineering courses provide by ITI.

The intake of students in courses such as electrician and engineering has been about 99% for the past 3 years. Non-engineering courses like fashion technology and carpentry are not as popular among students as engineering courses. Seats in such courses have been vacant for past few years.

Student intake in fashion technology and masonry has been as less as 59.84% and 47.24% respectively. The drop in student intake has been prominent from the past 3 years. The demand for basic cosmetology course is the least and is as less as 42.31%.

According to Yogesh Patil, Deputy Director, DVET explained the current statistics and said that students are moving on to non-institutional training for non-engineering courses because they get an opportunity to earn while learning.

Over 10,000 seats were vacant in such courses in 2015. Regardless of the vacancy in various courses, there has been a rise in the number of seats in the private colleges. 3,000 seats have been increased as new colleges have come into the picture and a lot of existing colleges have elaborated their courses. 12th July is the last date for applying and the provisional merit list will also be announced on the same day. The first allotment list will be declared on July 14.
