Panjab University Elections: PUSU Alliance Wins the Race
68% of polling was recorded and the elections were held smoothly. PUSA Alliance has swept the polls and wins the race.
The Panjab University Students Union (PUSU) alliance swept Panjab University polls by securing the highest majority. The results were declared on September 8, 2016. PUSU won the polls after three years.
An election office spokesperson mentioned that the candidates of PUSA, National Student Union of India front, a break way of Congress student body NSU and Himachal Pradesh Students Association (HSA) had won all the four seats of President, Vice President, Secretary and Joint Secretary. NSO and HPSA also supported PUSA.

Nishant Kaushal secured 843 votes and defeated his closest rival Piyush Ahmed of Students Union of India (SIO) by 318 votes. The Presidential candidate of NSUI Siya Minocha secured 2,074 votes. The total number of valid votes polled were 10,225.
For the election of Vice President, Avneet Kaur won the race by securing 3,296 votes against his opponent Sabhya Jaswal of Indian National Students Organisation (INSO) who secured 2,905 votes. Rajat Sharma of NSUI stood in the third position by securing 1,943 votes. A total number of 10,048 votes were polled.
For the election to the post of Secretary, Ashiq Mohammad won the race by securing 3,381 votes against his opponent Krishna Kumar of ABVP who secured 3,362 votes.
Amit Kaushik won the election for Joint Secretary by securing 3,576 against Manvi Gandhi of ABVP who secured 2,819 votes.
One of the officials said that around 68% of polling was recorded, and the elections were held peacefully. Last year, SOI had won the polls.
