Panjab University Planning to Scrap Down M.Ed Entrance Exam
Aspirants might not have to appear for M.Ed entrance exams from next academic session.
After a large number of seats were found vacant at various colleges affiliated to the university, Panjab University (PU) has come up with the idea of removing the entrance examinations which were earlier held for admission to M.Ed courses. Proposal for the same will be discussed on October 9 during the next senate meeting.
This is said to be the last meeting of the existing senate as elections for appointing the new senate are in process. Soon the existing senate members will be replaced with the new senate members.

On looking into the matter, it was found out that many M.Ed seats were left vacant every year. One of the reasons estimated behind this was the entrance exam that was conducted for admission to the M.Ed courses.
According to the new proposal, the M.Ed entrance exam will be scrapped down and the selection procedure will be now based on merit. The change is likely to be implemented from the next academic session.

This method was earlier adopted by the university for B.Ed entrance exams. When they had found out that many seats were left vacant for the course every year, they decided to remove the entrance examination and do admission based on merit.
Some of the other issues which will be discussed in the meeting include the proposal of imposing a fine of Rs. 2 lakh on affiliating colleges if they fail to submit their application for affiliation within the stipulated date.
