Panjab University to Increase Scholarship Amount by 67%
In a move to boost the confidence of the students, the University has decided to hike its scholarships by 67 percent.
From the next academics session, Panjab University students will be eligible for a hike in their scholarship amount. In a move to boost the confidence of the students, the University has decided to hike its scholarships by 67 percent. Right now, around 1,076 students are receiving scholarships under various categories.
The decision was taken in an important meeting of the Panjab University Development Council, held under the chairmanship of Prof Arun K Grover, Vice-Chancellor of the University.

During the meeting, a budget of INR 1.50 crore was approved by the Council for the next fiscal year 2017-18. It was also discussed as to how there were gross manipulations of the category under which student got the scholarships. Students pretending to be cancer and AIDS patients to get 100 percent financial assistance from the authorities. As a result, the students under the sports quota, those who are physically challenged, and single girl child were deprived of the scholarships.
The faculty of the college will also get the benefit this time, as the University has decided to increase their honorarium for the international and national seminars. It was also decided that a faculty member will get INR 10,000 after every three years to attend national conferences, seminars and symposiums. Right now, the amount is INR 7,500 for the same. On the other hand, for international events, the faculty will get INR 35,000 once in three years, whereas right now they get INR 25,000.

The research promotion cell of the college has been lying defunct over the years and the issue was also raised at the meeting of the council. The VC said that there is an urgent need to revamp the cell to encourage quality research programmes in the college. It was also decided to form a committee that will draft the plan to revamp this cell.
