Paramedical Courses in Maharashtra to Include Acupuncture and Massage Therapy Courses
Maharashtra medical education department has agreed to include acupuncture and massage therapy as certified paramedical courses. The new decision will help students to have a backup plan if they are unable to secure a seat in medical or dental colleges.
Maharashtra medical education department has made Acupuncture and Massage Therapy as certified paramedical courses. This will increase the credibility of such courses and will also boost tourism in the state. These courses will also serve as an additional option for medical aspirants if they do not secure a seat in medical or dental colleges.
Dr. Pravin Shingare, Director, Directorate of Medical Education & Research (DMER) said that areas like the Konkan become a popular tourist spot which is leading to increasing demand for acupuncture and massage therapy professionals.
NEET exam is not a mandatory requirement for the students who wish to pursue these courses. The admission process for acupuncture and massage therapy courses will be based on Class 12 marks or percentage.

Paramedical courses in the country are affiliated with the Paramedical Council of India and taught for a period of two years, followed by an internship of six months. The students will now get certificates by the Paramedical Council of India and from the Maharashtra government as well.
The recognition of these courses is really helpful for students who are unable to secure a seat in medical/dental college. Most of these students end up taking a B.Sc. programme. However, these courses have opened new opportunities for the students.

Parents of medical aspirants are also of the view that these courses will benefit many students who are unable to score high in NEET exam. They will also generate relevant job opportunities and students can also have a backup plan.
