During the launch of the new curriculum for engineering, HRD Minister, Prakash Javadekar urged the teachers to work with passion, dedication and sincerity. Teachers should not be impassive purveyors of knowledge at the cost of students’ interests. Teaching is an art and every teacher must play an overridden role in the maximum utilisation of teaching and learning resources, he added.

Pointing out a few problems in teaching, HRD Minister stated that teaching pedagogy is a science. However, the ministry observed that the teaching profession is becoming robotic and impersonal. Teachers should have a passion for teaching, and they should work towards producing good students, he explained.

Javadekar also expressed his concern about the quality of education in India. He pointed that the quality of education in India was not up to the mark, specifically engineering courses. On the other hand, the teachers who set question papers for various exams do not have requisite training, he pointed.

On January 24, 2018, HRD Minister took steps for the implementation of Phase III TEQIP (Teaching Education Quality Improvement Programme) in educationally backward states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

Adding further, Javadekar emphasised that the accreditation of universities and institutes across the country should be output-based rather than input-based.
