Pearl Academy CEO Denies Shutting Down of its Institutes Despite UGC Notice
Pearl Academy receives notice from UGC saying that it should stop granting degrees in collaboration with NTU, UK as it is not recognised
The Pearl Academy received a notice from UGC- University Grants Commissionsaying that the fashion institute should stop granting degrees in collaboration with the Nottingham Trent University of UK. The notice was sent by UGC because the Nottingham Trent University is not a University under UGC Act 1956.
But the Institute has refused to do that and Sharad Mehra CEO of Pearl Academy says that the fashion institute does not come under UGC Promotion and Maintenance of Standards of Academic Collaborations between Indian and Foreign Educational Institutions Regulations 2012.
Deepak Seth, Chairman of Pearl Academy Group said that the management is trying to figure out a way and is in active discussion with UGC regarding this matter. He also mentioned that in the notice there was nothing related to shutting down of the institutes.
The notice was received on 25th May' 16 but nothing has changed and the management is still trying to find a solution.
Pearl Academy of Fashion was set up in 1993 by the Little People Education Society and registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860. The academy was initially promoted by House of Pearl Fashions Ltd, an Indian export house and now provides degrees in collaboration with the Nottingham Trent University of United Kingdoms.
