In the post graduate medical entrance test held on Sunday nearly 1600 doctors appeared out of which 521 qualified as they had secured the mandatory 50% marks required for admission in the PG medical course.
CCTV surveillance was utilized in the exam with 65 cameras keeping watch. 25 personnel monitored the CCTV footage for evidence of unfair means by the examinees. Gujrat University (GU) vice-chancellor M N Patel conceded to have set the paper this time. The vice-chancellor who formerly was the principal of LD Engineering College, asked for sets of questions from 20 key members of the medical faculty.
The choice of questions for the exam paper was made from among those submitted by the medical college professors.
Patel said,” The paper was set in this manner to avoid problems such as leak of questions and need for grace marks that have plagued entrance tests in the past.”
Last year GU was made to grant 40 grace marks as only 200 students qualified the entrance exam. The matter went to court which ruled that GU cannot grant grace marks in the PG medical entrance exam.
