Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi will felicitate teachers who are selected for the best teacher award on September 05, 2018. As a part of Teachers’ Day celebrations, Vice President of India, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu will confer National Awards for the year 2017 to the selected teachers.

According to sources, the selection of teachers for national awards was purely based on revised guidelines aimed at selecting the best teachers who had shown innovation in their work and had added value to the school and their students. This year, the number of awardees was minimised to 45 with an aim to restore the prestige of awards. Under the old scheme, the number of awardees crossed up to 300.

The teachers who were nominated for the award gave a presentation before an independent jury comprising of the senior educationist. All the nominees were given a chance to present their innovative work before the jury. Finally, the jury selected 45 teachers and recommended their names for the award.

This year, the government received 6,692 applications from teachers for the National Awards. Out of the total applications received, each district selected three best teachers each and forwarded their names to the committee headed by State Secretary of Education which further shortlisted the names.

In all, the jury received 152 nominations from all the states and union territories.
