PM Modi to Inaugurate Patna University Centenary Celebrations

Patna University, which is the seventh oldest university of India, will complete its 100 glorious years on 1st October 2017. The varsity is expected to inaugurate its centenary celebrations in the esteemed presence of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

While throwing light on the plan to celebrate the milestone, Patna University's Vice Chancellor, Mr. Rash Bihari Prasad Singh indicated that the varsity has prepared a calendar of events that will be spread out for a duration of at least four months. In view of this, committees have been formed to ensure smooth conduct of events and celebrations of the best quality. Apart from that, refurbishing work of the University is also underway.

In an official statement, the VC has announced that communication of consent from the PMO has been received by the University. However, the exact date of the inaugural ceremony of the centenary celebrations is still not confirmed.

Patna University Centenary Celebrations Highlights:

• The varsity has built a special 'Centenary Pillar' right in front of the Central Libary building which was inaugurated earlier in July.
• Centenary stamps will also be issued by the Department of Posts.
• Patna University has written to the University Grants Commission (UGC) seeking a 'heritage varsity' status along with some centenary grant.
• A 'Centenary Run' was organised from Wheeler Senate House to Kargil Chowk in Patna.
• Conferences, symposiums, essay writing, quizzes, plays, photography competitions, competitive cultural performances etc. will be a part of the four-month-long celebration.
• A special exhibition that would showcase rare manuscripts and other artifacts that are possessed by the university will also be conducted.
• A "centenary souvenir" and "centenary issue of the Patna University journal" will also be launched in the coming months.
• Two grand 'Centenary Gates' are also being installed, one at the main entrance and the other at the gate of distance education department. The Patna University has collaborated with NIT Patna to work on its design.
• A special centenary logo has also been launched.

The VC of Patna University also met with President Ram Nath Kovind to invite for the centenary celebrations. He is likely to be present during the closing ceremony of the celebrations at Patna University.
