PM Modi to Interact with Students on August 25 at Smart India Hackathon 2022
Smart India Hackathon 2022 will be conducted from August 25 to 29 and on August 25 at 8 PM, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will interact with the students of SIH finale through video-conferencing.
Like every year since the inception of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) in 2017, this year too, PM Modi will address the finalists of SIH 2022 through video-conferencing on August 25, 2022. The video conferencing is scheduled for 8 PM, conveyed the Minister of State for Education, Subhas Sarkar. SIH 2022 is the fifth edition of the competition and is to be conducted from August 25 to 29, 2022.
The Smart India Hackathon is one of the world’s largest and a nationwide initiative administered by the Ministry of Education that provides students with a valuable platform aimed to solve key problems of society, organizations, and government alike, thus inculcating problem-solving, innovation, and thinking out-of-the-box cultures among students.
“PM Shri Narendra Modi has been interacting with SIH finalists every year since its introduction and he is expected to do so this year as well at 8 PM on August 25,” Subhas Sarkar said at a press conference.

This year, candidates from over 2,900 schools and 2,200 higher institutions participated in SIH 2022 and more than 15,000 finalists and their mentors are travelling to 75 nodal centres for SIH 2022 finale to tackle 476 problem statements which are received from 53 government organizations.
“The Smart India Hackathon this year received 476 problem statements from 53 government organisations. The winning teams from the institute-level hackathons organised under SIH 2022, which included over 15,000 students, will compete in this year's SIH grand finale at the national level. During the grand finale, these teams will travel to the allocated nodal centre and work on these statements for a solution,” Sarkar said, adding. “Ever since it began, the Smart India Hackathon has grown in scope with each passing year. The expanding engagement of students and organisations alike throughout the years reflects their increased enthusiasm. Every year, SIH has an influence on lakhs of students by providing them with a nationwide platform to put their scholastic understanding to the test in order to solve real-world problems.”
“An official chosen by the Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell will supervise and preside over the events at each nodal centre for the course of the SIH grand finale,” he continued. “Female involvement in the Smart India hackathon is also outstanding. The male to female ratio of hackathon participants for the grand finale is nearly 1.5:1 now.”
The winners of SIH 2022 on each problem statement will get a reward of INR 1,00,000. Besides, in the student innovation category, the top three winning will get INR 1,00,000, INR 75,000, and INR 50,000 respectively.
