PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates All India Institute of Ayurveda
- The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on October 17, 2017, at New Delhi.

On October 17, 2017, Prime Minister of India Shri. Narendra Modi inaugurated the first ever All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) at New Delhi. The AIIA operates on the lines of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (New Delhi). AIIA Delhi has a 200-bed hospital similar to AIIMS. During the inaugural ceremony, honourable PM indicated that the government would establish traditional medical institutes in every district of the country.
PM Narendra Modi began his address at the inaugural ceremony around 11:30 AM. Initially, he wished the nation on the occasion of Diwali as well as National Ayurveda Day. Addressing everyone, Modi pointed that the country cannot progress by forgetting its heritage and then regaining it later. He appreciated the AYUSH Ministry for its exceptional efforts in popularising Yoga all over the world.
Adding further, he mentioned that the government has been making constant efforts in integrating modern healthcare and traditional medicinal practices. There is a need for a good hospital with traditional links in every district across the country. He hoped that AIIA would gain momentum and popularity in the coming days.

Honourable PM expressed that the people of the nation need to expect the environment of wellness where people do not have the necessity to visit the hospitals. Today, people are slowly understanding the benefits of Ayurveda and evincing keen interest in consuming traditional medicines for a few health issues.
According to him, people who are educated in Ayurveda have complete faith in it. Yoga and Ayurveda can be effective, particularly for soldiers, as it improves their immunity. Supporting chains of Ayurveda must be developed, he added.
Modi felt that the existing Ayurveda education system or structure should be revised. A Certificate must be awarded to students after every level of Ayurveda education. There is a need for better and modern packaging for Ayurveda medicines, he explained.
PM of India indicated that a high-level research must be carried out on medicines providing instant relief without causing side effects. Today, herbal medicines have gained wide popularity across the world with farming of medicinal plants generating new employment opportunities. On the other hand, Indian coastal areas must be explored for new discoveries in the field.
He also urged the private sector to play a vital role in developing Yoga and Ayurveda through CSR funds. In India, people irrespective of their social background must get access to India’s health care system for which the government will take essential steps, he assured.
Concluding his speech, he called the nation to take a vow of living for Ayurveda. He thanked the gathering present at the inaugural ceremony.
The Out-Patient Department (OPD) at AIIA started functioning a few months ago. It deals with degenerative and neurological diseases, infertility, diabetes and metabolic disorders, panchakarma, Yoga and allergic disorders among other conditions. The first phase of construction of the hospital was completed with a budget of Rs. 175 crore. The hospital also offers Ph.D. courses, postgraduate students and skill development programmes.
