As of now, the percentile system is upheld by the court, keeping in view the changing circumstances as the same principle is applied to one and all and the relative merit is not disturbed.

A division bench of Punjab and Haryana High Court upheld the percentile system of merit adopted by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) in declaring the result of Pre-Medical Entrance Test (PMET) – 2016 and rejected the demand for re-test. The pronouncement came from a divisional bench comprising Justices Sudip Ahluwalia and Surya Kant following the appeal filed by Ravneet Kaur.

Previously, the court had dismissed the petitions filed by Ravneet Kaur and refused re-test. However, the petitioners had filed appeals before the divisional bench. The divisional court had set three days deadline for BFUHS to display the combined merit list on the website of all the candidates who took the examination. The judge declared that the varsity had allegedly declared four questions invalid out of a total number of 14 questions. However, the petitioners mentioned that there were only two wrong questions. The PMET 2016 examination was held on June 10, 2016.

The petitioners also pointed that 110 questions are supposedly wrong according to the PMET result which was declared adhering to the percentile method adopted by the university.

As of now, the percentile system is upheld by the court, keeping in view the changing circumstances as the same principle is applied to one and all, and consequently the relative merit is not disturbed.
