Poll Process of JNU Sets in Motion, CEC Appointed
With the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), the election process of students union of JNU has been set in motion.
With the appointment of first year Ph.D. scholar Ishita Manna, as Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), along with constitution of a poll body, the election process of students union of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has been set in motion.
She is the first female candidate to be selected for the election process and a first year Ph.D. student of the School of Social Sciences (SSS). She was unanimously appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) for JNU polls.

The election body comprises the CEC along with members from various schools of JNU. They will meet soon to decide the dates of the election. The election is expected to be held in the second week of September.
Dileep Maurya, former CEC of JNU said that the name of Ishita Manna is proposed by the JNUSU- the representative body of the students in the varsity. JNU polls have been keenly contested over decades.
While talking to media she said that in 2009 also a woman CEC was elected but elections could not be held that year. She would be the first woman CEC to conduct the elections and would assume office on Monday 29th August and start the election process thereafter.

Saurabh Sharma, JNUSU Joint Secretary welcomed the decision of appointing a woman CEC. He congratulated the new CEC and wished her the best. He also promised to support and offer her help throughout the election process.
Last year, the post of the president was bagged by Kanhaiya Kumar from the All India Students’ Federation (AISF). After 14 years the post of joint secretary was bagged by ABVP. The post of vice-president and general secretary were won by the AISA.
