President Kovind Addresses 27th Convocation of Pondicherry University
President Kovind attended the 27th convocation at Pondicherry University. In the convocation, he acclaimed female students to outnumber male students in academic performance.
On Monday, President Ramnath Kovind attended the 27th convocation of Pondicherry University as the chief guest, amidst the moratorium by the student’s council in lieu of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Chief Minister V Narayanasamy and Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi also participated in the convocation surrounded by tight security around the campus.
While addressing the students of the university, Mr. President acclaimed women students of the university to have shown excellent academic preeminence, outnumbering the male students of the university. Mr. Kovind also stood as a visitor for the Pondicherry University under the provision of the act to maintain the varsity in the year 1985. Along with applauding, the president also distributed gold medals to the students with excellent academic performance.
As stated by the President, he only got the chance to present the gold medals to only 10 students and out of which, 9 of the students were girls. Also, out of the total of 189 students who acquired the gold medal, 137 of the students were female and only 52 of them were male students.

In context to this, He further said that Pondicherry University is going to become the first-ever Indian university that will be implementing the Swacch Bharat campaign inside the campus and for which, the university has already submitted a detailed report to Union Urban Development Ministry. As per the president, he really appreciates the university’s cleanliness program and believes that the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) concept should be extended to Indian universities also.

Among others, Education Minister R Kamalakannan, Revenue Minister M O H F Shah Jahan, Members of Parliament N Gokulakrishnan and V Vaithilingam from Puducherry were also present in the event. During the welcome speech, Vice-Chancellor of the University Gurmeet Singh also presented a report in which he demonstrated the research activities to be encouraged in the university.
