The Andhra Pradesh EDCET – 2016 examination received very poor response this year. The EDCET examination is conducted by the Andhra Pradesh government for the admission into various B.Ed. colleges of Andhra Pradesh. This year the attendance of the examination was very low. Most of the students who had registered for exam did not attend the exam.
In Prakasham District only 380 students attended the examination which was conducted on 23-May-2016. There are 4000 B.Ed. seats among 40 B.Ed. colleges in Prakasham. Each college has a maximum intake of 100 students. But only 380 students attended the examination which indicates that each college will not be getting even ten admissions. The managements of B.Ed. colleges are in desperate situation and not able to understand what would be the situation.
The same situation repeated in Guntur District. There are 45 B.Ed. Colleges in Guntur District and there are 4500 seats among 45 colleges. Only 1,002 students attended the examination which indicates that each college will not be getting more than 22 admissions. Each college has a maximum intake of 100 seats.
The situation has been same in all the 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh where less than 1,000 students attended for EDCET examination.
Last year most of the B.Ed. seats were filled and there was a good response to B.Ed. course. But this year there has been a poor response. Even the management seats are also not being filled up. The government increased the duration of the course to 2 years which showed an adhesive effect. Moreover the government is planning to shut down government schools which has very less strength and decided to rationalize the teachers without recruiting new teachers further. So it is apt to say that B.Ed. course is losing its shine.
