While speaking at a function organised by Ruia College, Mumbai, the Union Minister for Human Resources Development Shri Prakash Javadekar expressed his views on the importance of education in bringing a social change in the society. The college had organised a function to facilitate meritorious poor students.

HRD Minister also explained how entrusting the entire responsibility on the government would not solve the quest to provide education to all and active participation from all people was required to make sure education was provided to each and every sect of the society.

Javadekar also said the ministry saw a need a changing of changing the education policy so that it also address the aspirations of the new generations and therefore they were bringing changes in the old education policy. He also asked for active participation by the people to send in their suggestions for drafting the new education policy. The deadlines for the comments have also been changed to September 15, 2016.

The HRD Minister also raised the issue of vacant seats for teaching positions at various levels from primary schools to IITs. He said that currently, over 20 lakh seats were vacant and the urged the students to look past the old school engineering and medical fields and instead give chance to teaching as an honorable career option.

All those meritorious students who secured good marks SSC examination of Maharashtra Board, despite all odds, were provided with financial assistance from the hands of the HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar. This was an initiative by the ‘MaTa Helpline’ project of Maharashtra Times.
